Hello folks.
I wanted to start off by saying a big thank you to everyone who read my last post, Why I’ve been taking a step back from music-making. It’s my most popular post so far in terms of reach and I also received a lot of messages from people, especially other musicians, saying they related which was very lovely and comforting. I’m really enjoying experimenting with what I write about on here!
Anyway, on with today’s post!
A little while ago I shared the lyrics to one of the songs off my first EP, Morning Song, and I thought I would continue doing this, so here’s the second instalment. This is a song called Who Is That Girl. I wrote it after a breakup in 2019 when I was feeling let’s say just a little pissed off! It’s a pretty simple song in a way, a kind of list, but I’ve always liked the lyrics. It’s quite a tough one to sing because it’s quite high, and I’m realising that I haven’t included it in my live sets in a while… sometimes that happens when you start playing with other people and you get kind of used to playing the same (ish) set. Maybe I’ll resurrect it at some point - if I ever gig again!
The song is still unreleased (other than featuring on my Bandcamp/CD-only double EP For Tomorrow) but I found this cute live video from a couple of years ago. Watching myself perform this, I can see how much I’m enjoying myself, and it makes me a bit happy and a bit sad because I feel so far away from that right now in terms of how I feel about music.
Anyway, here are the lyrics!
Who Is That Girl
She is a goddess of the night
She is a golden ray of light
She is your greatest fantasy
She is the woman of your dreams
She is the night she is the day
She is the beast she is the prey
She is the devil in disguise
She is the apple of your eye
Who is that girl?
She is the kiss against your kiss
She is the name upon your lips
She is the hand that holds your hand
She is the one who understands
She is the body in your bed
She is the words that you have said
She is the witness to your tears
She is the days, the months, the years
Who is that girl?
It’s not easy living here with you
With you
It’s not easy living here with you
She was the kiss against your kiss
She was the name upon your lips
She was the hand that held your hand
She was the one who understands
She was no goddess of the night
She was no golden ray of light
She was more than that it seems
She was the woman of your dreams
Who is that girl?
Iran across this piece which reminded me of a time when I too wrote songs and lyrics. So long ago. You made me want to revisit my older work. Thanks
